OUAN502 - Pitch Perfect, Logo / Business Cards

From the branding tasks we were each doing, Emma's focus was the company logo. I think however because of the importance of the logo we all pitched in, in some way or another. Pretty much as soon as we had thought of the company name she started drawing up ideas and we discussed as a group that having a pixelated pocket would be the best way to incorporate our brand name into our logo, but we didn't know if we would have just the pocket in the logo or have it accompanied by the brand name too. Emma drew up some different variations of the pocket with different arrangements of pixels each time. Eventually she narrowed it down to the five below. Progress with the logo was quite slow and due to conflicting schedules there was a very tight deadline for the logo to be done so that Ciara could take it and incorporate it into the business card. I was in a position where I could work on the logo so I took what Emma had done and modified it slightly in Photoshop. I took her idea of the pocket made of pixels but simplified it to make it more universal, it was a fairly straight forward process. It took a while however because each row of pixels had to have a slight change in the lightness of the colour in order to create the gradient effect that is seen in the logo. We decided to have text in the logo as well as the pocket and Lauren thought of having the pocket replace the 'o' in pocket. I found a simplistic font called, 'Adam' and used that as the main font in the logo before incorporating the pocket image. Earlier, when we were discussing colours we said we liked warm colours so I chose to make a version of the logo in red, orange and for a contrast, green. After seeing them all next to each other we decided we liked the green logo the most, so we went for that coloured logo. The final modifications that were made to the logo were just to try and see if adding pixels to the letters worked. Despite doing this for our final logo I think it looked better when it was a lot simpler and didn't contain any additional elements besides the text and the pocket.

After the logo was complete I sent the Photoshop file to Ciara so she could begin working on the business cards. She made a few different versions to see which we liked best, and in the end we all agreed we liked the simpler card with the logo on the front and information on the back. Due to time constraints and personal schedules over the course of the Easter break, this portion of the project felt a little bit rushed and it would have been nice to spend a little longer working on these elements of the branding. With some extra time we could have experimented further with different logos and ways that we can be creative with our brand. Although I quite like the way the logo and the business cards turned out I do think they were quite simple and if we had more time as a group could have created something a little more unique and been slightly more ambitious. Perhaps the simplicity would give us more room to work with when creating other elements of the branding. One of the most important things that we did well during this stage of the project in my opinion was constantly getting feedback on the work we were doing so that we knew everyone agreed on the direction that the logo was going and any ideas people had could be communicated. This proved to be quite helpful and meant that everyone's ideas were funnelled into each aspect of the branding and the project as a whole.
