I joined onto a group with Ciara, Lauren and Emma. I was happy with my group in terms of the variation in styles of work and I knew that it would be interesting to see all of our ideas come together. Aside form this I believe that everyone in the group has a good work ethic. This matters quite a lot to me, as this is the third project we've done this year in a group it is very apparent to me that once one member of a group doesn't fulfil their contribution then the next person in the group may not to be able to get on with their task. Furthermore the group will have a much better chance of doing well and have a high morale if the work is split equally and completed to a similar standard. On the first occasion that we were together as a group we discussed what skills we each possessed, and with some help from Mike we managed to nail down our companies aims and what types of work we were able to offer clients. It was fortunate that we all had different skills and interests in terms of what work we like to do, (pre-production, production and post-production) and the types of animation we like, from advertising to entertainment. Despite this, we all agreed that we strive to create animation that is narrative driven and communicates stories. Due to this common factor that we all mentioned, we decided that our company would be best suited to creating a wide variety of narrative driven animation. This was helped by the fact that Lauren likes every type of animation so it was easy to establish from the rest of the group what we liked in particular. It was also during this first meeting we discussed potential roles for each of us within the company. Emma was given the role of company director almost immediately because of her decisiveness, and Lauren was interested in being in charge of the companies social media and online presence. Ciara was given the role of communications officer as she liked the idea of the role and we needed someone who can meet with clients and discuss projects. Finally, I opted to do the role of finance officer because I numbers and think it would be an interesting role. Although I didn't have any prior experience managing finances to this level I think it should be okay. Our next step as a group is to decide on a company name to match our ethos and the type of work we create. It also means we can go on to create any aspects of branding that we want to. During the early stages of the project we also decided to make a short statement to summarise what we thought our company was about.

OUAN502 - Pitch Perfect, Introduction
The 'Pitch Perfect' brief is one of the last briefs of the PPP module this year. When we were first given the briefing and I realised the nature of what we had to do I thought it would be quite difficult but an interesting experience. The brief involved coming up with a business concept around an animation studio. Essentially in groups of around three or four we are to form a collective in the form of a start up animation studio. From here we have to consider everything involved in starting an animation studio such as; costs, providing a studio space and the tools we need all the way to creating branding and a brand identity for our group. This will be rounded off in the form of a group presentation to the rest of the class which will outline our ideas and what we do whilst showcasing our brand and social media presence. At this early stage I'm trying to make sure I understand the importance of covering all of the different areas that need to be looked into, so that nothing is left out. Furthermore, I'm sure there will be some areas that I have absolutely no experience or knowledge of whatsoever. For example, the finances involved in a start up company are completely alien to me, and I will have to do a substantial amount of research in order to realise the types of costs that we will have to incorporate into our plan and take into account. Currently, the task is quite daunting but I think it will become easier once a plan is laid out and the project is under way.
